Physical Presence during Moral Action in Immersive Virtual Reality

چکیده
Research on morality has focused differences in moral judgment and action. In this study, we investigated self-reported reasoning after a hypothetical dilemma was presented paper, that very same experienced immersive virtual reality (IVR). We asked open-ended questions used content analysis to determine sample of 107 participants. found participants referred significantly more often abstract principles consequences for themselves (i.e., it is against the law) paper-based compared IVR dilemma. people involved not wanting hurt particular person). This supports separate process theory, suggesting decision action might be different concepts with foci regarding reasoning. Using simulated scenarios thus seems essential as illustrates possible mechanisms empathy altruism being relevant actions especially given physical presence humans IVR.

Immersive Virtual Reality, Presence and Engagement: What is the Pedagogic Value of Immersive Virtual Worlds?
This proposal for research sets out the purported generational and technological issues that might influence engagement with education in virtual reality. It examines the pedagogical questions that might emerge in the course of this research with particular reference to that of communal constructivist theory and information and communications technology pedagogy in online learning. The chosen r...
متن کاملPresence and Memory: Immersive Virtual Reality Effects on Cued Recall
Presence, the psychological experience of “being there,” is an important construct to consider when investigating the impact of mediated experiences on cognition. Though several studies have investigated the influence of presence on the memory of virtual environments (i.e. recalling virtual objects), few have tested how presence impacts memory on subsequent tasks in the physical world. Thirty-t...
متن کاملThe Illusion of Presence in Immersive Virtual Reality during an fMRI Brain Scan
The essence of immersive virtual reality (VR) is the illusion it gives users that they are inside the computer-generated virtual environment. This unusually strong illusion is theorized to contribute to the successful pain reduction observed in burn patients who go into VR during woundcare (www.vrpain.com) and to successful VR exposure therapy for phobias and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTS...
متن کاملSensorimotor Learning during a Marksmanship Task in Immersive Virtual Reality
Sensorimotor learning refers to improvements that occur through practice in the performance of sensory-guided motor behaviors. Leveraging novel technical capabilities of an immersive virtual environment, we probed the component kinematic processes that mediate sensorimotor learning. Twenty naïve subjects performed a simulated marksmanship task modeled after Olympic Trap Shooting standards. We m...
متن کاملHigh Fidelity Immersive Virtual Reality
Virtual reality is now used as an aid to teaching and practice in a wide range of fields. In education, surgery, architecture and many other disciplines, virtual reality provides a tool that allows users to experience situations that could not be readily reproduced in the real world. As virtual reality technology becomes more pervasive, there will be a rising demand for improvements in the qual...
